Digital ecosystem is comprised of many components. The ‘big picture’ is really big. The more of it you understand the easier it will be to advance your digital career. One of the key elements in advancing your digital career is your ability to speak to a variety of things/topics within the ecosystem, and be able to relate them together into a single strategy.

Take on different roles, either within your current organization or externally, and keep learning at each role to get a full picture of how the ecosystem works
It’ll give you a better foundation and enable you to decide where in the ecosystem you want to focus your career path on.

The trend in digital marketing is changing from hiring people with specialized skills to hiring people with a good breadth of experience. Meaning, organizations and hiring managers are looking for people with variety of digital skill sets.

The more you are able to understand and speak to how things such as ad serving, biddable media, content, email and eCommerce work individually, a well as how they all roll up to some kind of attribution, the easier it will be to progress in your digital career.

Networking and collaborating with others is also key. Sharing knowledge and learning from others about issues they had faced and how they overcame is one of best things one can do in order to learn what sorts of things to avoid, what to focus on and how to quickly find resolutions to issues that may arise.  Asking others to show you what they do, how they do it as well as why they do it provides opportunities to learn about things that might be new or totally unfamiliar to you.  This free knowledge is something you can then infuse into your own efforts.

Develop on you skill sets, take on new opportunities and responsibilities, network and collaborate with your peers, research requirements for skills for job roles you are interested in work on developing that.
